This month's Media Watch takes a few steps back (in time) in order to take some big steps forward. I decided to enlighten our younger visitors by presenting some history of BBWs in movies and television.

This woman's career dates back a span of over 3 decades. I remember a time when she seemed to be the only plus-sized actress to grace the screen. The only common thread in the rolls she portrayed was the head-strong well rounded woman (in character).

She was in everything from "Goodtimes" to "Erin Brockovich", and then some.

The funny thing is I was never familiar with her name, eventhough her face was part of the family. Television was a major part of my family experience while growing up. My mom and I cheered everytime Conchata Ferrell appeared in something new.

She always brought something dynamic to a production. She often delivered her lines while smoking and chewing gum, adding depth to the assignment. She never missed a beat, while not fitting the "Barbie" mold. Conchata would play a supporting character in a way that made the other actors on the set seem more believable.

I felt the need to showcase her efforts and achievements. Conchata has had a wonderful career. I look forward to seeing future works by this amazing artist.
